I just stumbled across an interesting documentary about the literary state of the 1950's. it's funny because as much as it is called the lost generation, there seemed to be a lot of shit going down. In my own late night, insomniatic thoughts I search for a movement. If there is ever to be a time of social progression in my life, before I'm too old to partake, I would like it to be something like the American Fifties.
It was such a clash of old and new... It was like the forming of a thunderstorm. We would be lucky to feel this motion, standing on the precipice of something huge and growing. Blogs are fine and dandy. Smart phones and twittering seem to uphold the tradition of narcissism, especially amongst writers and artists. Sensationalized news for the sake of it, not because it is actually news but because something needs to fill the time slot, makes me feel like even if there was something worthy of being said it would be lost in the static. Maybe there have been vociferous clashes of ideals in America over the last 20 years, but maybe it was also washed away with the rest of the white noise. (no talk of irony please)
I wonder if there has ever been a time in history when so many people are so widely displayed and so widely ignored. It will probably come to a point where there is very little use for the internet due to its vague and overloaded essence. Maybe my children will lead a revolution which inspires devolution back to simpler times.
